Hugh Lynn Cayce was the oldest son of Edgar Cayce and a leading author and speaker on his father’s work and metaphysical subjects. He was born in Christian County, Kentucky in 1907. In 1930 he graduated from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. After graduation he worked briefly as the librarian for Atlantic University in Virginia Beach and volunteered as a Boy Scout Leader. Hugh Lynn married Sally Taylor (1905-1997) in 1941. They had two sons - Gregory and Charles Thomas Cayce. Hugh Lynn acted as liaison between the City of Virginia Beach and the United Service Organization during the early 1940s. From 1943 to 1945, he served in the 30th Special Service Unit of the United States Army, where he arranged recreation activities for service members and co-edited the Sunday Punch newspaper. On his return from Europe, he served the Association for Research and Enlightenment as manager and later as chairman of the board of trustees. He wrote the book Venture Inward, an examination of safe and unsafe methods of exploring personal psychic experiences. He was named First Citizen of Virginia Beach in 1964 and received the National Life Achievement Award from the Illinois Society for Psychic Research in Oak Park, Illinois in 1980. Hugh Lynn Cayce died on July 4, 1982.
