The Association for Research and Enlightenment (1931-present)

The Association for Research and Enlightenment is a non-profit organization founded in 1931 by Edgar Cayce to research and explore subjects such as holistic health, ancient civilizations, and personal spirituality. The A.R.E. sprang from the membership of the original Association of National Investigators, founded in 1927 to study Edgar Cayce's work. The A.N.I. dissolved with the closing of the Cayce Hospital and Atlantic University in 1931.
The A.R.E.'s board of trustees was unsure how to proceed after Edgar and Gertrude Cayce's deaths in 1945. With Hugh Lynn Cayce's guidance after his return from overseas, the A.R.E. decided to continue operations by disseminating published material on the readings and creating and administering educational programs on a national scale.
Through the decades the A.R.E. grew to become a network of national and international groups dedicated to the study of the readings and their applications for health, humanities scholarship, and personal spirituality.
